Sascha Thomsen

Stage and costume designer Sascha Thomsen studied dance at the Staatliche Ballettschule Berlin and the Palucca University Dresden and initially worked as a freelance dancer and performer. From 2004, he trained in fashion design at the Lette-Verein Berlin, worked as a fashion designer and created costumes for young choreographers. At the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, he was an assistant to Bert Neumann, Tabea Braun, Nina von Mechow, Sarah Schittek and Adriana Braga Peretzki in productions by Frank Castorf, Christoph Marthaler, Sebastan Baumgarten, René Pollesch and Robert Borgmann, among others, and designed the costumes for Troy by Esther Preußler in 2016. In 2009, he created the costumes for Katharina Christl’s Get Ready, I’m Done as part of the Festival de Marseille in a production with the Ballet National de Marseille. He has a long-standing collaboration with the ballet director of the Koblenz Theatre, Steffen Fuchs. He has designed sets and costumes for the choreographer Andreas Heise at the Graz Opera, the Vorpommern Theatre, the Salzburg State Theatre, the Berlin State Ballet and for a Heinrich Schütz project in Dresden. At the Lucerne Theatre he worked with the choreographer Yabin Wang and the KOR'SiA collective. Sascha Thomson also creates designs for film productions and concert formats. 
With his stage and costume design for Andreas Heise’s choreography and direction KaiserRequiem, Sascha Thomson is making his debut at the Vienna Volksoper.
