Vienna State Ballet
The Vienna State Ballet is one of the world’s most prestigious and tradition-rich dance institutions, operating as an independent ensemble at both the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Volksoper.
With a company of 101 dancers, it presents around 90 performances per season across both stages and on international tours. Its diverse repertoire spans full-length romantic classics, groundbreaking masterpieces of the 20th and 21st centuries, and world premieres.
Beyond its own productions, the ensemble also contributes dance sequences to opera, operetta, and musical performances at its home venues, as well as at the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert and the Vienna Opera Ball.
Since 2020, Ballet Director Martin Schläpfer has shaped the Volksoper Wien into a center for contemporary dance, featuring world premieres, works from European modernism and American modern dance, as well as interdisciplinary projects.
