Robert Weithas
Robert Weithas was born in Innsbruck. From 2008 to 2012, he took private lessons with Anne O'Boyle, after which he continued his training at the Ballet Academy of the Vienna State Opera, where he graduated with a diploma. Before joining the Vienna State Ballet in 2017, he was a member of the youth company of the Ballet Academy of the Vienna State Opera. From 2022, Robert Weithas worked as a freelance dancer and choreographer. He rejoined the Vienna State Ballet on 1 December 2024.
His most important roles at the Vienna State Ballet were the Shadow and John in Vesna Orlićʼs Peter Pan, Young Man in Orlićʼs Carmina Burana and a Wild Duck in Andrey Kaydanovskiyʼs The Ugly Duckling. He has also danced in Thierry Malandainʼs Cendrillon, Davide Bombanaʼs Roméo et Juliette, András Lukácsʼ Bolero, Rudolf Nureyevʼs Raymonda and several works by Martin Schläpfer, including a solo in Ein Deutsches Requiem. He has also appeared in numerous musicals, operas and operettas at the Vienna Volksoper and in opera productions at the Vienna State Opera.
As a freelance artist he has performed at Sadler's Wells Theatre, London in productions such as Ukiyo (choreography: Blenard Azizaj), Make a Wish (choreography: Anton Lachky) and La Strada (choreography: Natalia Horecna), at the Origen Festival Cultural in Riom (choreography: Eno Peci) and has toured Japan with the Vienna Volksoper Symphony Orchestra.
He presented his first own choreography, Raum 112, as part of Plattform Choreographie at the Volksoper Wien in 2022. Another creation, Abandoned, was created for the DNA Semmering project in collaboration with filmmaker Manuel Perić and Mila Schmidt, a dancer with the Vienna State Ballet.
