Gala Jovanovic

Gala Jovanovic was born in Belgrade and educated in her hometown by Milica Bezmarević, among others, as well as at the Ballet School of the Vienna State Opera. She joined the Ballett der Wiener Staatsoper und Volksoper in 2007/08 where she first danced in the ensemble of the Volksoper Wien. In 2012/13 she changed to the Vienna State Opera and in 2015 she was promoted to demi-soloist of the Vienna State Ballet.

Her repertoire comprises Myrtha in Elena Tschernischova’s »Giselle«, Queen of the Dryads and Street dancer in Rudolf Nureyev's »Don Quixote«, Big swan und Spanish dancer in Nureyev's »Swan Lake«, Solo-Snowflake and Spanish dance in Nureyev’s »The Nutcracker«, Carabosse in Martin Schläpferʼs »The Sleeping Beauty«, Fairy of the Joy of Life in Peter Wright's »The Sleeping Beauty«, gipsy in John Cranko's »Romeo and Juliet«, The gipsy in Michael Corder’s »The Snow Queen«, Bluebeard's mother in Stephan Thoss' »Bluebeard's Secret«, Hippolyta in Jorma Elo's »A Midsummer Night's Dream«, Vasilissa in Andrey Kaydanovskiy’s »The Firebird «, Queen Mab in Davide Bombana’s »Roméo et Juliette«, Maria Theresia in Patrick de Bana’s »Marie Antoinette«, the wife in Jerome Robbins' »The Concert«, Pas de Bottes in Pierre Lacotte’s »Coppélia« and Pas des Forbans in Manuel Legris’ »Le Corsaire«. Furthermore, she danced in works by George Balanchine such as solo in »Rubies« (»Jewels«) and »Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet«, Maurice Béjart's »Le Concours«, Helen Pickett's »Eventide«, Nils Christe's »Before Nightfall«, Christopher Wheeldon's »Fool’s Paradise«, Thierry Malandain's »Mozart à 2«, Trevor Hayden's »Double Date«, Edward Clug's »Peer Gynt«, Edwaard Liang's »Murmuration«, Manuel Legris’ »Sylvia«, William Forsythe's »Artifact Suite«, Jiří Kylián's »Symphony of Psalms«, Wayne McGregor's »EDEN|EDEN«, Heinz Spoerliʼs »Goldberg-Variationen« as well as in world premieres of Martin Schläpfer's »4«, »Sinfonie Nr. 15« and »The Seasons«.
