Louis Stiens
Louis Stiens was born in Munich and received his dance training at the Heinz Bosl Foundation and the John Cranko School in Stuttgart. He was a member of the Stuttgart Ballet from 2011 to 2022. Stiens works both as a dancer and as a choreographer in the fields of classical, neoclassical and contemporary dance with both traditional and experimental-conceptual approaches. Of his numerous works, his collaboration with Marco Goecke for the production Dancer in the Dark (2012) and seven commissioned works for the Stuttgart Ballet are just as noteworthy as his choreography for the Stuttgart premiere of The Seven Deadly Sins in collaboration with director Anna Sophie Mahler and electroclash singer Peaches and the world premiere of Tal for the Zurich Ballet in January 2023. For the 35th Stuttgarter Filmwinter in 2022, he created In my room with dancer and choreographer Shaked Heller, based on a film by Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Furthermore, he has created dance performances for projects such as Solid Transitions as part of Kunst in den Rohbauhallen Stuttgart 21 in 2023 and was part of the OOPS! tour by Peaches in 2019. Since 2023 he has been living and working as a freelance choreographer in Berlin. Current projects take him to Graz, Leipzig and Weimar. Louis Stiens will make his Vienna debut with the world premiere of High as part of the Vienna State Ballet premiere Creations.
