Isaac Mizrahi
The US-American Isaac Mizrahi has been studying fashion design at the Parsons The New School for Design in New York City and with famous designers such as Perry Ellis und Calvin Klein. In 1987 he was launching his own label, the Isaac Mizrahi brand, which stands for timeless, cosmopolitan style and colourful, stylish designs. Afterwards he was working for the French fashion label Chanel until he changed to Liz Claiborne in 2008. Mizrahi received many prizes, including four »Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA)« awards and in 1989 the Perry Ellis Award for Emerging Talent by Liza Minnelli. In the same year Mizrahi’s outfit made its way to Vogue’s cover.
Besides his achievements as a designer, Isaac Mizrahi has worked extensively in the entertainment industry as an actor, host, writer, designer and producer for over 30 years. He hosted his own television talk show, has written three books and has made countless appearances in movies and on television. He served as a judge on the reality-TV-show »Project Runway: All-Stars«. Mizrahi has designed costumes for opera, ballet (e.g. works by Mark Morris and Twyla Tharp), Broadway and Off Broadway, as well as directed productions for the Opera Theatre of St. Louis. Annually, he directs and narrates his production of »Peter and The Wolf« at The Guggenheim Museum. He has performed cabaret at Café Carlyle, Joe’s Pub, West Bank Café, City Winery and many other venues across the country. He also has his own production company, Isaac Mizrahi Entertainment, under which he has several projects in development in television, theatre and literature. His most recent book, »I. M.: A Memoir«, was published in February 2019.
As a set and costume designer for Mark Morris’ ballet »Beaux«, which will have its premiere in February 2023 at the Volksoper Vienna, he is for the first time a guest at the Vienna State Ballet.
