László Benedek

The Hungarian László Benedek received his education as a dancer (2000-2006) as well as a ballet master (2007-2010) at the Hungarian Dance Academy in Budapest. He completed his studies at the 30th International Ballet Seminar of the Society of Music Theatre in Wolfsegg, Austria (2004), in a summer dance course at the Aberdeen University Scottish Dance (2005) and in a dance course at Kudo Dance School in Tokio (2006). In the same year he gained the Keresztes Mária Award. He has started his career as a ballet dancer with the Győri Ballet (2006-2012). Since 2012 he is a member of the Vienna State Ballet where he could be seen as Fortuna in Vesna Orlić’s »Carmina Burana«, Captain Hook in Orlić’s »Peter Pan«, Lehrer Lämpel in »Max und Moritz« by Ferenc Barbay & Michael Kropf, Le Commandeur in Thierry Malandainʼs »Don Juan«, stepmother in Malandainʼs »Cendrillon« in »Jolanthe and the Nutcracker« by Lotte de Beer & Andrey Kaydanovskiy. Andrey Kaydanovskiy created for him as well the solo part in »Zeitverschwendung« and the title role in »The ugly Duckling«. László Benedek also performed in Martin Schläpfer's world premieres of »4«, »Sinfonie Nr. 15« and »The Seasons« as well as in »Ein Deutsches Requiem« and »Drittes Klavierkonzert«.  Furthermore, he danced in several musicals, operettas and operas at the Volksoper Wien and operas at the Vienna State Opera. In 2017 he created his first own choreography »Realité« for »Young Choreographers« of the Ballettclub Wiener Staatsoper & Volksoper. In December 2022, another creation followed with »Red Riding Hood« for »Plattform Choreographie« of the Vienna State Ballet at the Volksoper Wien.
