The Volksoper Wien and the Wiener Festwochen launched an artistic partnership in the 2022/23 season that will enable outstanding performances beyond all narrow genre boundaries. The 2022/23 season features Creation 2023 by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker / Rosas. This partnership is continued and intensified in 2023/24 with the production The Gospel According to the Other Mary. The Wiener Festwochen is one of the most important art and culture festivals worldwide, developing perspectives for the present and the future. Vienna Pride
The LGBTQIA* community is colourful, loud, and political and must always raise its voice against hostility. We are therefore all the more pleased to be a strong partner at their side and to give a home to a diverse scene. One pillar of this cooperation is the collaboration with Vienna Pride. Over almost three weeks, countless LGBTQIA* events in Vienna will ensure visibility here. After the production Not the Fathers in the 2022/23 season, we set off on an excursion into the city in 2023/24 - into the community, to its stories, moments of happiness and desires.
In cooperation with Civic Opera Creations and local queer partner organisations, a dialogue and workshop process is taking place with the directors Carmen C. Kruse and Maurice Lenhard, queer authors, musicians and opera studio and ensemble members of the Volksoper Wien, a new evening of music theatre based on stories experienced by queer Viennese citizens. Under the working title Queer Moments of Joy, we will take time to we take the time to focus on connecting moments of love and humanity and at the same time expand the music theatre repertoire with new perspectives and representation. Civic Opera Creations Founded in Vienna in 2020, COCREATIONS co-produces new, innovative opera that is created in exchange between local communities and artist:s and expands the repertoire to include underrepresented worlds of experience.
