Die Dubarry tells the story of the social climb of Jeanne Beçu from working-class girl to wealthy mistress of Ludwig XV. When faced with the choice between her love affair with artist René and the chance of becoming the king’s lover, it’s not just a man she has to choose but also an entirely new way of life. And perhaps her own personal happy ending?
