The Vienna Volksoper opens its season 23/24 with Luc Bondy‘s iconic production of Salome, which he created at the 1992 Salzburg Festival. The work was subsequently reviewed as a “highly sublime family chamber play” that ”turns this work itself into a hero“ and has been shown at several renowned opera houses around the world. Now the ecstatic one act-opera by Richard Strauss celebrates its Vienna premiere and is conducted by music director Omer Meir Wellber, who is deeply fascinated by the score: ”There is not one note in Salome that doesn’t have a huge philosophic mountain behind it.“
